In the book of Micah we are commanded to ‘Act justly, love mercy and walk humbly with our God’. In Galatians Paul recalls being encouraged by the other apostles to ‘remember the poor’ as he preached the gospel. His response was to declare that he was most eager to do just that!
These weekly tips are to help us start seeking justice wherever we are. They are small, practical steps that we can all do and that together will make a huge difference. I want to take my personal justice seeking up a level this year and so I am going to try something new each week.
I hope you will join me.
Act Justly Now- Habit 9: Nudge!
Last week I decided to plunge into Fairtrade Fortnight. It was great. We discovered all sorts of things that we loved and could be Fairtrade like wine, and olive oil and peanut butter. We even visited the Divine chocolate pop up shop in central London and tried more flavours than was strictly necessary!
What am I going to do this week?
I am going to develop a habit of campaigning so that petitioning the powerful on the behalf of others becomes a normal part of my life
How am I going to do this?
I am going to download and use the new Nudge app. This is an Android and Apple app that delivers information and action steps straight to your phone. You can then share your actions on Facebook. It is brand new and looks excellent.
If you are fortunate enough to live in a democracy then you have enormous power and an enormous responsibility to use that power for the benefit of others and to the glory of God. We can write to and meet with our MP’s and councillors, those in power, to advocate on behalf of those who have less power and campaign for justice.
Proverbs 31:8-9 says Speak up for those who cannot speak for themselves; ensure justice for those being crushed.9 Yes, speak up for the poor and helpless, and see that they get justice.
Will you join me?
It would be great to have friends for the journey and so if you start doing this then do let me know by leaving a comment or emailing me at email@example.com.
Each week will have a new habit and tip so check back or use the form to subscribe so you get each weeks habit by email and never miss out. You can find more resources on Rhythms of Righteousness at Rhythms
You can find all the habits under ‘Act Justly Now’
