Act Justly Now- Habit 8: Fairtrade!

In the book of Micah we are commanded to ‘Act justly, love mercy and walk humbly with our God’. In Galatians Paul recalls being encouraged by the other apostles to ‘remember the poor’ as he preached the gospel. His response was to declare that he was most eager to do just that!
These weekly tips are to help us start seeking justice wherever we are. They are small, practical steps that we can all do and that together will make a huge difference. I want to take my personal justice seeking up a level this year and so I am going to try something new each week.
I hope you will join me.

Act Justly Now- Habit 8: Fairtrade!

Last week…

Last week I decided to take reusing and recycling seriously. By thinking about what I was throwing away I realised how much stuff I actually throw away! swapping disposable wrapping, cups and bottles for reusable was a great and easy way to reduce my rubbish and taking the time to sort through the rubbish to recycle everything made a big impact.

What am I going to do this week?

This week we are in the middle of Fairtrade Fortnight. I am going to campaign for a fairer deal for the worlds producers and find some new fairtrade products that I haven’t tried before.

How am I going to do this?

All over the UK supermarkets and other shops have promotions and exhibitions about Fairtrade produce that is great for us and great for the producers. I am simply going to go shopping! We use lots of fairtrade goods already- banana’s, instant hot chocolate, tea and coffee to name but a few. I am going to find some items that I have never tried and buy them. As well as my local supermarket there are online retailers like ethicalsuperstore.com that seem worth a look.

The FairTrade foundation have a great petition going to campaign for a fairer deal for smallholder farmers around the world and I am going to get into that.
