A call to Mumbai

One of the networks I’ve been involved with for the past few years is the Global Compassion Network (which is a part of the Call2All movement). This is a group that has a heart to follow the call of Isaiah: “To loose the chains of injustice and to untie the cords of the yoke, to set the oppressed free and break every yoke. Is it not to share your food with the hungry and provide the poor wanderer with shelter, when you see the naked to clothe him and not to turn away from your own flesh and blood.” (Isaiah 58:6-7 NIV)

Just over a year ago we shared a vision with each other for an event that would inspire and equip Christians and churches to join this journey – and now we’re working to see that become a reality.

The Call2Compassion and Justice will take place in Mumbai from 4-8 November2013, and will have at its heart the connection between the Great Commission and the Great Commandment to love one another that is at the core of compassion and the pursuit of justice.

Mumbai is a city where world-class ministries are already doing transformative work among the poor: with slum dwellers, people who have been trafficked, those in prison, those living with HIV/AIDs, and with children at risk, and we’re working with a network of churches and projects in the cities to host this conference.

Call2Compassion & Justice will equip churches and ministries for compassion ministry by sharing and learning from and experiences of the transformational ministries already active in Mumbai, building upon them with response and discussion led by speakers from India and from global networks and organizations involved with Global Compassion and the Call2All Network.

There will be plenary sessions sharing God’s heart for compassion and justice that will focus on key ministry areas such as human trafficking, community development, children at risk, and HIV/AIDs. These will be followed by breakout workshops that examining key topics that are critically important in working in these areas. The delegate rate also covers the cost of visiting the various projects of Mumbai’s ministries in small groups to experience their work in a truly tangible way.  We believe that this will allow delegates and speakers to share their hearts, experiences and ministries with others, inspiring and enabling participants to take new ideas, models and skills away with them to develop and bear fruit in their own contexts, and to follow the call.

So I want to invite you, and your churches and ministries – whether you’re already engaged with compassion ministry or are feeling the God’s call to begin such work to come together with the Global Compassion and Call2All networks and join us in Mumbai to experience and to learn from what God is doing in this city.  You can register and sign up for more information on our website.
