In the book of Micah we are commanded to ‘Act justly, love mercy and walk humbly with our God’. In Galatians Paul recalls being encouraged by the other apostles to ‘remember the poor’ as he preached the gospel. His response was to declare that he was most eager to do just that!
These weekly tips are to help us start seeking justice wherever we are. They are small, practical steps that we can all do and that together will make a huge difference. I want to take my personal justice seeking up a level this year and so I am going to try something new each week.

Act Justly Now- Habit 1: Pray
What am I going to do?
I believe that he most powerful thing we can do to serve the last, the least and the lost is to pray. I am ashamed at how little I pray for anything beyond my own needs and crises! But January is the time for resolution and not regret and so my first habit to act justly is to pray. To bring the needs and situations faced by the last, the least and the lost to Father.
How am I going to do this?
I already read a couple of newspapers online most days and listen to radio and TV news. When I come across a story of suffering, oppression or poverty I will pause and bring that person and situation before God. I will ask Him for wisdom for how to pray and for anything I should do to help that person or situation.
I think the act of praying authentically is more important than my eloquence and so speaking out in prayer the things that move me and disturb me is going to be more important than praying the right solutions. In the Psalms people poured out their hearts, their pain, their confusion and their desires. I have been good at doing that for me I think I should do it more for others.
